“Babylon’s Burning” by The Ruts
To me at least, The Crack is more essential than anything ever recorded by the Sex Pistols. Just listen! The Ruts were one of the greatest Punk bands of all fucking time, and it’s a damn shame their lead singer OD’d before they could finish their second LP. Given time to meet their potential, they might have been bigger than The Clash.
Of course, that’s just my own (very biased) opinion; I can’t listen to “Staring At The Rude Boys” without singing along so loud it frightens my girlfriend, so take anything I say with a grain of salt.

Jello Biafra did a stage-dive and landed right on top of me as he performed this song with his new band The Guantanamo School of Medicine—what a fucking show. I’ve given this song a lot of thought since I came home from Iraq. It’s about sheltered American kids, and the big scary world we pretend to understand. If it were up to me, we’d force Campus Republicans to listen to this record—and then ship them off to the Middle East, just to see how they like it.
